LL301—Articulatory Phonetics

  • Credits Hours: 3
  • Prerequisite(s): LL101
  • Core Class: Core class for Cross-Cultural Missiology, Core class for Biblical Languages Emphasis
This course equips students to recognize, name, produce, transcribe, and categorize virtually all the sounds that occur in spoken languages. This is accomplished by combining the theory and practice of articulatory phonetics using intensive drills in definition, recognition, production, and transcription of the whole range of sounds used in human speech. The course is designed to enable missionaries to learn languages more rapidly and accurately while forming the basis for some to go further to do technical work as field linguists.
