A Poem of Purpose

                                by Christina Henline

“What is your life?” I can hear Him say,

“It is merely a vapor that passes away;

Perhaps seventy years upon this earth.

Will that be all that your life is worth?”

“No,” dear Lord, “I pray it will be,

Worth far more than that for eternity.

That when before Your precious face I stand,

You will find me faithful to Your command.”

“There are people who still need to hear of the cross

Before they meet with eternal loss;

People who never have heard of My grace,

And have no hope of ever seeing My face.”

We must go and tell them that Jesus died,

That for our sins they pierced His side;

And His blood was shed on the cross that day,

All for our sins. This was the price He paid!

And on the third day, He arose from the grave;

That if we believe, we might be saved!

This is the gospel as it was told,

A long time ago, in the days of old.

And the story is still just as true today

As it was way back in the Bible days.

But men everywhere are crying to hear

Of how they can have peace from their fears.

They are dying every minute, and going to hell;

Oh what a tragedy! Oh what travail!

Some never even heard the gospel true,

That Jesus died for them. –They never knew!

“Oh Lord, I will go and tell them the story

Of how Jesus came to this earth from His glory.

I will go and tell them that they must believe,

If the gift of eternal life they want to receive!”

“Lord, give me Your power and boldness to speak.

Lord, make me strong when I am weak.

Help me to live a life that brings You glory.

May I never cease to spread the gospel story.”

For all around the world, men are dying;

All around the world, children are crying!

Who else will help me share the story of the cross,

Before these precious people are eternally lost?
