It takes more than a passport to make a missionary.
Missionaries Need SPECIAL Training
- ARTICULATORY PHONETICS (speech sounds in world languages)
- LANGUAGE ACQUISITION (learning a language without a school)
- INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS (#1 reason they leave the field)
- COPING STRATEGIES (learning how to deal with cultural differences)
- WORLDVIEWS (understanding the major ways that foreigners think)
- CBT (teaching the Bible to people who have never heard of a Bible)
- PRAYER and FASTING (pray and fast with us)
- SPIRITUAL WARFARE (don’t leave home without this instruction)
- SELF-DENIAL and SUFFERING (we call this “neglected doctrines”)
- SPECIALIZED COURSES (to prepare women for ministry in missions)
- BIBLICAL LANGUAGES AND BIBLE TRANSLATION (for the focused)
Missionaries Need Academic and PRACTICAL Training
- FIELD COURSES (students learn from missionaries on the field)
- MODULAR COURSES (missionaries teaching missionaries here)
- INTERNSHIPS (the entire fourth year on the field)
- ACTION COURSES (some courses occur outside the classroom).
Christian workers Need a GOD-CENTERED view of the Bible
Two different messages emerge from the Bible depending upon whether one views God’s actions for man or for God. At BSWE, we believe that God does everything for His glory. The Bible is about God working in history to magnify Himself (Ezekiel 38:23). Sin is best defined as a failure to glorify God (Romans 3:23). Jesus died to uphold the glory of God; and when He died, His prayer was that God would be glorified in His death (John 12:28-29). We are convinced that suffering and sacrifice – missionary essentials – make more sense when the Bible is taught and preached from the perspective of God’s worth and His glory. This is the diet that “makes missionaries.” We believe and teach the Bible from a God-centered perspective.
Christian workers Need MISSIONS Knowledge
Since missions is God’s idea, and therefore not merely a church program, we offer a regimen of missions appropriate to every student. Pastors, staff, and every believer will acquire a basic knowledge of missions at BSWE because missions is the “family business” (finishing Christ’s purpose on the earth).
BSWE is the place for you if...
-
you are wanting to make God world-famous;
-
you are passionate for God's glory;
-
you believe that missions is for God;
-
you realize that the road to following Christ has a cross in it;
-
you believe that missionaries ought to be among the best the church has to offer;
-
you recognize the need for training in spiritual warfare and prayer;
-
you realize that a portion of your training should include a field internship;
-
you desire to be trained by veteran missionary practitioners;
-
you are seeking preparation which includes relational mentoring;
-
and if you appreciate a balance of academic and practical training.
