Greetings,

In the same way that world circumstances affect how businesses operate, we who are engaged in the Master's Mission should apply significant global factors to our strategies and operational procedures as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission.  Here's a piece of information that should affect how we do what we do (and where we do it):

"Approximately every two weeks, another language dies and becomes extinct" (The Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages).

What Must Be Done?

Focusing Assets on God's Mission

When I was in the Army, we were expected to be doing something (all the time) that was relevant to our mission, given to us from our Commanding General.  In other words, if they walked up any time of the day or week, and caught us engaged in something that didn't contribute to what they said our mission was - then we were in hot water - we were going to get hammered.  Obviously, our mission was the Commanding General's mission.  They were never satisfied with busy work; they wanted us to be doing things which contributed to the revealed objective.

TESL Module - Oct 15-19

This is a testimonial course taught by a missionary practitioner.  It outlines the process for approaching the TESL missions opportunity in China; the instruction introduces the operational method of teaching conversational English to internationals; it identifies the cultural and spiritual obstacles inherent to this endeavor in the Chinese context; and it explains the delicate means of modeling and communicating the Gospel message in a country guarding against religious activity.

Staggering Statistics

"Out of the 201 living languages in China today, 146 have no portion of the Bible; twenty-two languages have New Testaments; eighteen have some portion of the Bible; and only fifteen languages in China have complete Bibles." (EPM, 2007).   The average investment for translation projects around the world is $37,000 per year.

Luther on Language

"Without languages we could not have received the gospel.  Languages are the scabbard that contains the sword of the Spirit; they are the [case] which contains the priceless jewels of antique thought; they are the vessel that holds the wine; and as the gospel says, they are the baskets in which the loaves and fishes are kept to feed the multitude" (Martin Luther).
