    Greetings,

One of the strongest comments Jesus made on missions is found in John 17:20-23, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."

In this passage, Jesus hinged the credibility of the missionary message on our oneness in Him. Four times, He prayed that God would enable us to demonstrate a marvelous unity that will make Christ Himself visible to the world.

    Missionary Team Training
    Paul Pritchard's Module

It's rare yet encouraging today to find men of God who are truly committed to God's glory and have a ministry which demonstrates unity and teamwork. There are many today who speak of teamwork but what they mean is their team. Missionary Paul Pritchard has organized and trained church planting teams whose strategy is patterned after the ethnolinguistic approach to missions. His team is targeting the Portuguese-speaking peoples of the world.

Bro. Pritchard made a monumental contribution last week to the students and faculty of BSWE through his instruction in "Cross-cultural Church Planting in Teams." We are grateful for the ministries of missionaries like Bro. Pritchard. BSWE students will continue to benefit from the influence of Bro. Pritchard's ministry through periodic modular instruction here in Milford and internship training and mentoring on the field.

As an institution, the Church grew and multiplied until it ultimately achieved great intellectual power. Brilliant men came into the Church and became its key leaders. The people in the Church began to rely on these key intellectual leaders and gradually lost the sense of utter dependence upon the power of the Holy Spirit which had marked the first century. They trusted in their brilliant apologists. As brilliant men rose to the front and to the top, the effects of the Holy Spirit's power were gradually diminished. The Church gained great intellectual power; but in the subtle gaining of intellectual power, it lost its spiritual power. A study of church history attests to this.

The Church that is - is not the Church that was! Are you satisfied with your Christian life? Maybe the question should be asked this way - Is the fire of God evident in your life to those around you? Are you seeing real fruit in your life? Are you tired of living by the hundreds of "Dos and Don'ts" that someone told you would lead you to fulfillment and has only left you empty? If so, this life-changing class on prayer can help. Come and experience what others have found has so radically changed their entire Christian lives.

    Book Review
    Secrets of the Koran

Missionary Don Richardson went to Irian Jaya to the cannibalistic Sawi tribe. He discovered what he calls a "cultural key" which was an eye-opening element within the culture of the local people to aid in their understanding of the Gospel. The Lord used him to introduce those people to Christ and nurture an indigenous congregation of believers. In addition to Secrets of the Koran, Don Richardson has written three other books: Lords of the Earth, Peace Child, and Eternity in Their Hearts. Don Richardson is currently an active speaker of missiology in the course, "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement."

Don Richardson reveals what Islam's "holy book" is really about by quoting directly from the Koran (e.g., he highlights 109 "war verses" in the Koran). He discloses the global agenda of Islam and shows how Islam is making inroads into various countries and governments throughout the world. Don Richardson provides examples of how to answer the dexterous attempts by Muslims to present Islam as a religion of peace.

The following quote from Secrets of the Koran summarizes the spirit of the author and the tone of the book: "A friend of mine said, 'Islam is waging war on us. Let's wage peace on Islam.' I prefer to say, 'Let's wage truth on Islam - because truth is the doorway to genuine peace. Peace not founded upon truth cannot last."
