WORLD EVANGELISM MINUTE

electronic epistle

July 2008

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking a moment to review our newsletter.

We want to ask that you remember in your prayers two of our students who are halfway through their missions internship.

Michael and Kristen Carter have been in Mongolia since February of this year.  They are being trained by Mickey Cofer and other missionaries there.  Kristen is expecting their first child this fall.

The purpose of the missionary internship is the application of  the training in theology, practical training, and missions theory.  The Carters' objectives are to learn  the Mongolian culture, language, and the work of the missionary on the field.

We hope you'll go to their website, read their updates, and remember them in your prayers.

Missions to Military

October 13-17, 2008

Dr. Tom Lancaster will be teaching a modular missions course on the topic of Planting and Nurturing Churches to Military Personnel (and Internationals).

U.S. Military personnel serving around the world are often out of reach by an English-speaking church.  The nature of their service commitments and their geographic assignments combine to present both challenges and opportunities.  Anyone seeking to conduct a ministry in this very needy and fruitful field will require a measure of special training to understand and endure these challenges and to embrace these opportunities.  Dr. Lancaster has established and maintained a thriving ministry among the military in these circumstances.  He will be showing us the need and the blessings of this type of ministry as well as the pre-requisites for those who would attempt it.

Language Death: Why does it matter?

by David Parker

A language dies when the last speaker of a language dies or simply when nobody speaks it any more.  According to the Living Tongues Institute, a language dies every fourteen days and between one-half to two-thirds of the world's languages are "endangered."  The Summer Institute of Linguistics, where I am currently receiving linguistics training, cites 516 languages around the world as "nearly extinct" or "moribund."  Sixty-eight of these are "First Languages" (Native American Languages) right here in North America.  Northern Australia has approximately 150 aboriginal languages in this category.

"Walking Among the Dead"

  by Melissa Roe

A.J. Gordon once said: "I have long since ceased to pray, 'Lord, have compassion on a lost world.'  I remember the day and the hour when I seemed to hear the Lord rebuking me for making such a prayer.  He seemed to say to me, 'I have had compassion on a lost world, and now it is for you to have compassion.'"  When does the dutiful messenger become the compassionate missionary?

Does God Create Evil?  Yes and No

by David Parker

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things" [emphasis mine] (Isaiah 45:7).  Does God "create evil"?  Yes and No.
We will find our answer both in the context and in the rest of the Bible itself (all of it).

FBCM

Biblical School of World of Evangelism began in the fall of 2002 as a local church educational ministry of First Baptist Church of Milford, Ohio (home of Bearing Precious Seed and Master Ministries).  Pastor William Duttry founded the school to serve what he believed to be a need to equip missionaries with the knowledge and abilities unique to cross-cultural ministry.  BSWE is a three-year, resident training institution operating primarily on a semester-based, morning program.  Modular courses supplement the basic semester program, enabling students to learn from active, veteran missionary practitioners prior to their own career deployments as missionaries.  The school facilitates a fourth year internship on the field, which serves as a practical application of the three-year resident training.
