Greetings, "And should not I spare Nineveh, that great
city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that
cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and
also much cattle" (Jonah 4:11)? Jonah was a reluctant
missionary, loathe to go to Nineveh and even less willing to
share God's compassion for a city deep in ignorance and
spiritual darkness. His success as the court prophet, national
prejudice, and preoccupation with personal comfort combined to
choke out any love for a people unlike his own. Jonah had more
concern for a vine than he did for lost people. But is there not
a little bit of Jonah in each of us? Don't the successes of
home ministry, racial prejudice, and comforts and conveniences
beckon for our attention?

Missionaries Wanted |
 |
At BSWE, we're looking for a few good missionaries. We're
looking for people who are willing to cast their own
accomplishments to the ground and pursue Christ whatever
that may mean for them. This is His call to discipleship;
and it's "not for the weak and the fainthearted."
Half-hearted seekers need not apply.
If you know somebody who is absolutely dedicated to
making Christ known and loved among the nations, please have
them contact us. We are passionate about His purpose.

Missionary Kid? |
 |
YOU KNOW YOU'RE A MISSIONARY KID WHEN...
You watch National Geographic specials and recognize
someone.
You worry about fitting in, and wear a native wrap around
the dorm.
You do your devotions in another language.
You realize that furlough is not a vacation.
You have a passport, but no driver's license.
You think VISA is a document stamped in your passport,
not a plastic card you carry in your wallet.
Riots make you homesick.
You find a gravel road, so you find some of your MK
friends and go drive along it at night with the lights off
and the windows down, reminiscing.
Your best friends live thousands of miles away.
You mail people birthday cards two months before their
birthday.
You can't find all the letters or symbols you need on
your keyboard.

Waging Peace on Muslims |
 |
by David Mowen
Islamic terrorist attacks followed by western punitive
retaliatory attacks are reminiscent of the Crusades in the
minds of Muslims and Christians alike. During the Crusades,
"Christian" armies marched through Muslim countries warring
to regain the land and rule for Christendom.
However, recently groups of Christians seeking better
relations with Muslims followed the Crusade trail in a
Reconciliation March apologizing to populations for the
actions of the Crusaders, others are storming the same lands
in Prayer Marches engaging in spiritual warfare to reclaim
Muslims for Christ. Still others argue these infidels ought
to be annihilated for the atrocities of 9/11. God, however,
has a different plan in mind:
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them
that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for
them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye
may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for
he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and
sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust" (Matthew
5:44-45).

Gladys Aylward - Silhouette of Determination
by Missionary Melissa Roe
"I wasn't God's first choice for what I've done for
China... I don't know who it was... It must have been a
man... a well-educated man. I don't know what happened.
Perhaps he died. Perhaps he wasn't willing... and God looked
down... and saw Gladys Aylward... And God said - 'Well,
she's willing.'"
Poverty, lack of formal education, and rejection from
mission agencies would not be the chosen components for a
successful ministry, nor the foundation on which an eager
young heart begins its journey. Yet the missionary career of
Miss Gladys Aylward was not only occasioned by challenges,
it was riddled with them.

Apostolic Passion
|
|
|
|
"For me, passion means whatever a person is willing to
suffer for. 'Apostolic passion,' therefore, is a deliberate,
intentional choice to live for the worship of Jesus in the
nations. It has to do with being committed to the point of
death to spreading His glory. It's the quality of those who
are on fire for Jesus, who dream of the whole earth being
covered with the Glory of the Lord."
"There are too many over-fed, under-motivated Christians
hiding behind the excuse that God has not spoken to them.
They are waiting to hear voices or see dreams - all the
while living to make money, to provide for their future, to
dress well and have fun."
